The Island of Kos is connected to Greece and other Greek islands by air and sea. There are three daily flights and sometimes more than three daily flights served by the Olympic Airlines from Kos to Athens, three weekly flights to Rhodes, three weekly flights to Leros and three weekly flights to Astypalea. The airport is about 26 kilometres at the southwest of Kos Town. The Olympic Airlines has bus service connected to Kefalos buses that stop roundabout near the entrance of the airport.
The local bus station is near the Olympic Airlines bureau, at the west of it. Buses run to most of the towns regularly and reach the important beaches in the beautiful Island of Kos.
Ferries link the beautiful Kos Island with the entire group of islands in the Dodecanese, the Cyclades group of islands and with the port of Piraeus in Greece. Ferries also run daily in the hot season of summer between Kos and Bodrum Town in Turkey and the service include shipping cars. The sea line includes Ikaria, Samos and Fourni.

Historical Brief of Kos or Cos!
People settled in the watered, fertile and beautiful Kos Island long time ago in the ancient Greek history. During the Mycenaean times, the island participated in the Trojan War and sent 30 ships to the field of the wars.
The island became an ally of the Rhodian cities of Ialysos, Lindos and Kamiros in the 7th and the 6th century BC. The island prospered at that time. During 477 BC, and earthquake damaged parts of the island and the Persians took it after that. It joined the Delian League sooner after that and gained its prosperity back.
The beautiful Kos Island became more prosperous and the most famous island after the birth of Hippocrates, the father of medicine, who was born in the island in 460 BC, lived there and died in 377BC. They built the medical school after his death to carry his teaching methods.
Ptolemy II, the king of Egypt was born in the beautiful Kos Island in 309 BC and when he became king of Egypt, the island became a prosperous trading centre.
The Roman dominated the island in 130 BC, until its administration went to Rhodes in 1315, when the Venetian controlled it and then sold it to the Knights Hospitaller.
The Knights fled the island leaving it to the Ottoman Empire in 1523 to rule it for 400 years. The island then became Italian in 1912.
The German troops conquered the British troops in the island during the Second World War in the battle of Kos and occupied the island until 1945. It became after that a protectorate of the UK until Greece took it in 1947.
