The Beautiful Tinos Island with its highland and terraced hill slopes, more than forty marble oucrops villages, and ornate dovecotes lies in the Cyclades archipelago very near at the south of the beautiful Andros Island.
The name of the island in the Ancient Greek Culture and through the ancient history was Hydroessa. They also called it that time Ophiussa.
The beautiful Island of Tinos is 194 square kilometres with a total population of 8,574 (2001). There are 5,203 inhabitants in the Municipality of Tinos, 2,692 inhabitants in the district of Exomvourgo and 679 inhabitants in the Community of Panormos.
It is not isolated island, as it is well connected with its sister islands in the Aegean Greek Islands and with ports in the main Greek land and in Crete Island. Boats and ferries connect it to the rest of the islands in the Aegean.
The main sea transportation vehicle, the excursion boat "Tinos Sky" sails in seasonal trips from mid-June to mid-September, starting weekly from Tuesday to Sunday to Delos and Mykonos islands.
In addition, catamaran and fast boats connect the beautiful Tinos Island daily with Rafina, Greek Mykonos Island, the beautiful Paros Island, and the beautiful Syros Island. Boats also run five trips weekly to Piraeus Island.
Several ferries connect it several times daily with Mykonos, Paros, Rafina, the beautiful Santorini Island, the beautiful Andros Island, Syros and Piraeus. Several ferries run also weekly to the beautiful Naxos Island, Ikaria via Mykonos, Iraklio on Crete Island, Thessaloniki, Amorgos and one weekly to Skiathos.
Those ferries sail back and forth from three different quays or ports. The Outer Port with the large ferries dock is about 300 metres from the main harbour. The Middle Port with the fast ferries dock is at the end of the main harbour and the Inner Port is at the right of it.
The interior transportation runs through buses daily to Pyrgos Village and Panormos Village via Kambos Village and run in seasonal trips starting from June to September between Tinos Town (Hora) to Kionia Village and Porto Village.
Tinos Town or (Hora) is the capital and the port of the beautiful Tinos Island. It has almost the same presence of its sister capital cities in the other islands in the Aegean Sea. However, it is a little bit different.
Cafés and hotels are on the line along the waterfront. See beautiful Tinos hotels here.
The tavernas and restaurants engage the narrow streets behind the waterfront and several shops and stalls are on line along the streets that lead to the Panagia Evangelistria Church.
The centre of the town is about 20 minutes walk to the waterfront. The post office is at the southeast direction on the end of the waterfront. The National Bank of Greece on the waterfront offers also ATMs services in its building that lies about 50 metres at the left of Hotel Posidonion on the same waterfront.
