Venice or Venezia, the Italian beautiful city on the water has a nostalgic essence of beauty. Arts contribute to this essence and compose Venice as an Italian naked bride that emerges like a virgin Goddess of beauty and love.
Venezia is an artistic and architectural masterpiece filled with palaces from the Renaissance and the Gothic and Byzantine periods. It is known as one of the world's most extraordinary beautiful and unique cities.
However, this page is the second page about beautiful places in Italy. The first page on this website is about another beautiful place in Italy.
Continue the article below. If you have more information about the city or any other beautiful places in Italy, please use the form below to write it. Some people who are addicted to literature knew this Italian beautiful city from William Shakespeare's remarkable work "The Merchant of Venice". Through arts, this beautiful city seems like a bride of the water or perhaps one of the goddesses who descended from Olympia to compose a romantic essence of love on this place.
The city was founded in the 5th century and it spreads over 118 small islands in a marshy lagoon in the northeast corner of the Adriatic Sea. Venice became one of the greatest maritime power and the richest city in the world in the early Middle Ages.
Even the smallest palaces in the city with the finest works of art reflect the prosperity, which the city obtained through centuries of trade with the rest of the world. Today, the works of some of the world's greatest artists colour the city with a marvellous essence of beauty.
Venezia is known as the city on water because there are many canals shaped in a picturesque composition running through it and reflecting that essence of beauty. However, since Venice was built on wooden poles hammered deep into the muddy subsoil, expectations of bad things to happen with any climate change could raise worries. For this same reason, the beautiful city has always been highly vulnerable to floods.
To mark both of the expectations and vulnerability of the beautiful city to flooding, Venice slowly sinks over the last hundred years and in the last century alone, it sank up to 23 centimetres. In addition, the city had experienced the biggest flood in its history on November 1966, which reached 1.94 metres above daily waters norm and caused severe damage to many beautiful historic buildings.
Worries worked better at that time to raise alarms and enforce serious activities that influenced the decision-making circles to plan protective projects. A barrier with multiple mobile floodgates known as Mosè (referring to the prophet Moses who parted the Red Sea) has been designed to withstand a maximum water rise of three meters. The underway construction plan reveals that the Moses' flood barrier will be sufficient to protect Venezia against storms and sea level rises until the end of this century.
At the time, or earlier if climate change moves faster than the calculated events, new steps to protect this jewel of the Adriatic Sea must be taken.
